Duterte Gov’t To Convert Sangley Point Into P1.3 Trillion Philippine Global Gateway

Sangley Point in Cavite City is being groomed to be the Philippine Global Gateway.

New and existing project proposals to build an international airport in Sangley Point in Cavite City are now being reviewed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and other concerned agencies.

The All-Asia Resources and Reclamation Corp. (ARRC) of Wilson Tieng and Henry Sy is proposing the P1.3 trillion project dubbed as Philippine Global Gateway (PGG).

The consortium proposes to develop Philippine Air Force’s Danilo Atienza Airbase in Sangley and reclaim a portion of Manila Bay surrounding area into a world class International Airport, Seaport and Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The Philippine Global Gateway will be situated on three islands totalling about 2,980 hactares and located approximately 500m offshore.

“We are ready but we need the government’s nod,” ARRC Vice Chairman Edmund Lim said.

He added that the project will be made possible in partnership with foreign investors without any government funding.

The proposal aims to address air congestion in Manila as the Philippine capital struggles to cope with a rising number of flights and increasing road traffic.

Planned to be built are a two-runway airport and passenger terminal that can initially accommodate 50 million passengers and 90 million by 2050.

The project will also give way to a freeport and logistics-friendly industrial zone with the construction of a P500 billion integrated seaport that will decongest Manila Harbor and a special economic zone for manufacturing and processing plants.

In line with this proposed massive infrastructure, PAF’s 15th Strike Wing, headquartered in Danilo Atienza Air Base, is now being relocated to Lumbia Airport, Cagayan De Oro.

It conducts tactical air operations in support of Armed Forces of the Philippines units. 15th Strike Wing operates OV-10A/C Bronco, SF-260TP/W, 520MG Defender, and AW-109 attack helicopters.
