Leucaena leucocephala is a small fast-growing tree which is common throughout tropic areas. Its common name is white lead tree.

Leucaena leucocephala has different local names and it is known as ipil-ipil in the country of Philippines.
During the 1970s and 1980s, it was promoted as a "miracle tree" for its multiple uses but it is also been described as a "conflict tree. Leucaena leucocephala is considered one of the 100 worst invasive species because it grows quickly in urban areas, growing along roadsides, in car parks, and in abandoned land like a weed.
Leucaena leucocephala has antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory. It also has p-hydroxycinnamic acid which reduces the risk of stomach cancer.
In Philippines, due to its effectiveness, it is widely and famously used for deworming children. Consuming of young pods of Leucaena leucocephala affects and kills the worms inside the body. Its property helps to flush out worms such as roundworms, flukes, and tapeworms.
Young pods is also used in making Javanese vegetable salad with spicy peanut sauce, and spicy fish wrapped in papaya or taro leaves in Indonesia, and in papaya salad in Laos.
For safety reminder, never consume them raw, it is best to consume if finely cooked.
