TATAK DUTERTE: 547 towns to get P8.15-B fund assistance from national government

Five hundred forty-seven municipalities are set to receive assistance to local government units amounting to P8.15-billion from the national government through the program Assistance to Disadvantaged Municipalities (ADM).

The towns are included in the first batch of recipient municipalities which have complied with requirements for release after obtaining a Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) mark from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and complying with both assessment and adoption of measures on Public Financial Management (PFM) as prescribed by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

The program covers 1,373 local government units (LGUs) in the country and has a budget allocation of P19.43-billion as provided by Republic Act No. 10924 which authorized the General Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2017 approved by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

The projects supported by the program include water system projects, evacuation facilities, small water impounding systems, sanitation facilities, and local access roads.

In keeping with the transparency policy of the government, the list of LGUs and their corresponding projects and amount as well as compliance status to the GFH and PFM can be viewed at the DILG website (www.dilg.gov.ph) under its “Programs & Projects” link in the navigation bar. This is likewise in keeping with the commitments made to the Open Governance Partnership (OGP).

Civil society organizations (CSOs), people’s organizations (POs), and other stakeholders are enjoined to collaborate and assist their LGU on the implementation of the projects by way of giving feedback on its status on the ground.

DILG Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Catalino S. Cuy said that he “enjoins all concerned LGUs to immediately start the implementation of the projects to make sure that the benefits are immediately felt by the people.”

He directed all DILG field officers to ensure proper information dissemination, promote full transparency, and to monitor implementation of the projects in partnership with various sectors.

LGUs which are not part of the first batch will be included in the second batch as soon as they comply with the fund release requirements.
